I love old movies. There’s something about the combination of the style mixed with an emphasis on dialog over special effects that gets me every time. But a big part of it is probably the style. (I once saw an exhibition that included both Audrey Hepburn’s dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Grace Kelly’s dress from Rear Window. I thought I might die from excitement.)

This outfit has that old movie feel to me. Like our girl would be sitting in an outdoor cafe (obviously in Europe), spying on the male lead through those dark glasses. But at the same time, you could look just as chic and modern wearing this outfit today. (Spying optional.)

When you go through my closet, you’re likely to find a lot of grey and black. When I’m purchasing clothing, it’s usually my default option. Where I love to mix in color is with my accessories. Take a peek into my shoe collection and you’ll find almost every color. Mix in a colorful scarf and clutch, and suddenly those winter shades of grey and black feel much more appropriate for spring.

I’ve always been hugely inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. But ever since I posted last week’s boho inspired desert look, I can’t get her out of my mind. I even ordered this book I’ve had my eye on. (I’d also highly recommend this book and this more in-depth biography. And this book of her letters to Stieglitz is just plain lovely.)

So now I’m dreaming of a desert pilgrimage where I throw on this stylish dress, toss my iPad mini and stylus in my clutch (for sketching and photographing), and head out into the sunshine to channel some of O’Keeffe’s magic.

It’s easy to assume that Easter means pastels. But since I’m not really a pastel girl, how about some fabulous, graphic floral prints?

I don’t know what kind of Easter dinner warrants this sort of outfit, but it’s certainly one I want to attend.

I love going to the beach in the spring. Maybe it’s because I spent my summers in college working at a beach resort town, but I truly appreciate the off season, when things are much quieter.

This early in the year, it’s unlikely you’ll be getting much of a tan. But this is the perfect outfit for just strolling the beach on a breezy, spring weekend.

I’ll be the first to admit that boho isn’t really my personal style. But I do love a good maxi dress, especially as the weather warms up.

This would be the perfect outfit for a day trip to the desert, perhaps touring Georgia O’Keeffe’s old stomping grounds or Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert camp, Taliesin West. Or Coachella, if you’re into that sort of thing.
