As summer transitions into fall, the changing weather can make dressing tricky. It’s cooler in the mornings but hot in the afternoon. The secret to transitioning your wardrobe as the weather changes is to mix pieces you can layer together. A casual black dress is perfect for warm days, and if it’s cooler in the evenings, top it off with a military jacket. And as the weather starts to cool, you can mix in a pair of jeans to give your summer dresses even more distance.

casual summer work style
The key to chic summer dressing is to keep it simple. (When it’s hot, you don’t want to be wearing a lot.) A classic but comfy dress, pretty flats, and a great necklace are all it takes to pull together a stylish summer look.
1/ easy t-shirt dress // 2/ daphne necklace // 3/ cassarino tote bag // 4/ nude pointed flat
inspired by Audrey
How is it that Audrey Hepburn always managed to look so chic even when she was dressed in something totally casual? And more importantly, how amazing is it that a look inspired by her style could work just as well today?
1/ striped t-shirt // 2/ classic cropped trousers // 3/ straw hat // 4/ daphne necklace // 5/ amalia skimmer
real world outfit: ikat skirt and military jacket
The problem with spending time building outfits online is that I now spend a lot more time looking at clothing online. Which means I spend more time buying clothing online. I try not to buy too many things (my closet is pretty full already) but when I spotted this skirt and military jacket on sale, I just couldn’t resist.
And the bag? Well let’s just say I stumbled upon that in real life too, and it’s the best bag I’ve ever owned!
1/ melissa necklace // 2/ jensen flat sandal // 3/ v-neck tee // 4/ ikat skirt // 5/ outbound jacket // 6/ slouchy tote
geek chic
Summer is, without a doubt, my favorite time of year. But at this point in the summer, I’m starting to dream of fall fashion. Fall style just affords you so many more options, what with all the layers. (After all, there’s only so much you can wear comfortably when it’s 88 degrees and 90 percent humidity.)
You could certainly pair this outfit with a more sensible shoe, but I love how mixing heels into this look takes the whole thing from potentially humdrum to high style.
1/ sleeveless blouse // 2/ book club glasses // 3/ lucy necklace // 4/ clydee heel // 5/ metallic thread cardigan // 6/ distressed jeans
how to wear a bold skirt
From statement skirts to bright red pants, this week has certainly been about bold dressing. Today’s outfit is no exception.
When I’m not drawn to my default color palette of grey and black, my tendency is to go for teals and aquas. The color on this skirt is fantastic (and fits with my general rule of keeping bold colors on the bottom) and the black band makes defaulting to black (but not boring) accessories a no brainer.
1/ rose tank // 2/ color block skirt // 3/ amy necklace in black // 4/ wings foldover clutch // 5/ pentagon fragment ring // 6/ patent leather pumps
dress up day
Remember when you were a kid and played dress up? And you got to wear these incredibly extravagant outfits for no good reason?
It doesn’t seem fair to me that the only people who get to do that are kids and Carrie Bradshaw (who is a fictional character). So I say we all start playing dress up for no good reason.
Of course, there’s no reason you couldn’t pull this outfit off in the real world. Yes, it’s a pretty full skirt (layered over another skirt) but the top actually keeps the whole look rather conservative. Perfect for playing “quirky librarian” or a day on the town (and brunch with the girls).
1/ silk crepe blouse // 2/ dotted tulle skirt // 3/ gathered tulle skirt // 4/ droplet post earrings // 5/ lucy necklace // 6/ magpie foldover clutch // 7/ slingback pumps
a chic way to wear red pants
I’m not known for having the most colorful wardrobe. (Which isn’t surprising, given that my favorite color is grey!) But when I am inclined to wear color, I prefer to do it on the bottom. Wearing colored pants or a skirt (or even shoes) lets you experiment with colors you might be less comfortable wearing around your face.
The key with these bright red pants is to stick to really chic accessories so you end up looking like this and not like a clown.
1/ black sleeveless blouse // 2/ trento trousers // 3/ audrey necklace // 4/ skinny buckle belt // 5/ magpie foldover clutch // 6/ susan bracelet // 7/ black point toe pumps
easy casual style
You know how sometimes you cycle through six different outfit ideas before landing on what you’re going to wear for the day? Today’s post was pretty much like that. I ran through a range of ideas before settling on some comfy, but still stylish, standards.
And what standards they are? A flowy tank, that striped cardigan, and my Georgia necklace! I’m pretty sure I could live in this outfit! (At least for a few days, until I got bored and decided to switch it up.)
what to wear to the big meeting
Whether you’re trying to impress the client or looking to wow investors, this is the perfect power outfit. A professional dress with a great shape. Power heels. A touch of (understated) bling with a chain link necklace. You’re ready to nail it.
1/ belted dress // 2/ amy chain link necklace // 3/ wellspring foldover clutch // 4/ amy chain link bracelet // 5/ mary jane courts
